The atmosphere at Lake Country Elementary was electric today as students, faculty, and local officials gathered to celebrate the official opening of the school’s brand-new wing. The expansion, a significant investment in the future of the district’s youngest learners, marks a major milestone for LCE and the Lake Placid community.
The new facility features a modern classroom wing designed to accommodate the growing student population. Beyond the halls of the new building, the addition includes high-quality soccer and kickball fields, providing much-needed space for physical education and teamwork.
A particularly touching highlight of the project is the newly designed patio area, where a magnolia tree has been planted and officially dedicated to former Principal Majel Bowerman. The space is intended to serve as a quiet retreat and a gathering spot for students and staff, honoring the lasting legacy of leadership and heart that Bowerman brought to the school for many years.
The project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the School Board of Highlands County and Marmer Construction. The Board’s commitment to modernizing local facilities was matched by Marmer Construction’s dedication to quality, ensuring the project was completed to serve the community for decades to come.
"We are incredibly excited about this addition," school officials noted during the ribbon-cutting. "These fields and the new wing aren't just about square footage; they are about providing our kids with the best possible environment to grow, play, and succeed."
